AI CINEMA Montréal 2027 is an international film festival focused on filmmakers using artificial intelligence as a meaningful part of the creative process.
Scheduled for March 5, 2027 at Funamis in Montréal, the festival welcomes creators working across short films, feature films, animation, experimental cinema, music videos, visual effects, sound, editing and generative storytelling.
Unlike competitions that require a specific AI platform, AI CINEMA allows creators to use any AI tools they choose. Commercial platforms, open models, self-hosted systems and tools for image, video, audio and text creation are all permitted. The festival emphasizes artistic vision rather than a required technology stack.
Films may range from micro shorts of five minutes or less to feature-length productions. AI must contribute meaningfully to the creative process, whether through generation, direction, animation, visual effects, editing, scoring, sound or post-production.
The awards program includes conventional filmmaking honors such as Best AI Short Film, Best AI Director and Best AI Cinematography, as well as more experimental categories including Best Prompt, Beautiful Glitch Award, Dream Machine Award, Neon Nightmare Award, Synthetic Soul Award and Reality Corruption Award.
The festival is particularly suited to creators producing highly stylized, surreal, futuristic, dark, neon, experimental or visually ambitious AI imagery.
