PROMPT FESTIVAL Toronto 2027 is an AI-focused film competition and live screening event for creators experimenting with the next generation of cinematic storytelling.
The festival accepts projects from around the world and takes a broad approach to AI eligibility. A film does not have to be completely generated by artificial intelligence. Projects can qualify when AI contributes anywhere in the creative pipeline, including image generation, video creation, animation, scripts, concept development, voice generation, sound design, music, editing, visual effects, character creation or other hybrid workflows.
The competition includes 15 award categories, led by the festival's signature Best Prompt prize.
Best Prompt explores a particularly ambitious creative challenge: how much cinematic storytelling can a creator accomplish from a single master prompt or similarly concentrated prompting process?
Additional awards recognize AI short films, directing, storytelling, cinematography, editing, sound design, animation, experimental work, music videos, visual innovation, hybrid films, character creation and worldbuilding.
Selected filmmakers receive an official Toronto screening, festival laurels, access to the live event and networking opportunities with other filmmakers, artists and creators. Winners receive additional recognition and promotional exposure through festival communications.
The competition is especially relevant to creators producing visually ambitious AI content because categories such as Best AI Visual Innovation, Best AI Character Creation, Best AI Worldbuilding and Best Prompt directly reward the types of generative visual experimentation increasingly used in commercial, music and creator campaigns.
