Pursuant to the IGU Commission on African Studies (IGU CAS) inaugural conference which was successfully held at the University of Namibia from the 17th-18th of May 2018, IGU CAS hereby invites paper and session proposals for its second annual conference themed Africa in the global imaginary: Towards internationally competitive science and research, which will be held at the University of Zululand, South Africa, from 17 to 19 June 2019. The conference aims to bring together, geographical and interdisciplinary scientific research and thought on, about and in Africa. The conference responds to the need for globally competitive research and scientific innovation integral to it and seeks to transport this to the international academic community through the IGU CAS. IGU CAS, therefore, invites paper and session proposals from all fields of geography and other disciplines which respond to and interrogate, but are not limited to the following: Africa and climate changeAfrica and genderAfrica and natural resource use/managementAfrican borderlandsAfrican citiesAfrican development challenges and trajectoriesAfrican population geographiesConflict, war and developmentDevelopment and investmentsEconomic and political integration Environmental issues and problems in AfricaFood, food sovereignty and food securityIndustrialization and urbanizationMarginalityMigration, development and regional integrationMigration, poverty and developmentRural spacesRural development and urban developmentSustainable developmentUrban transitionsUrban governanceWater resources management and governanceNatural resources management and governance SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS:IGU CAS welcomes proposals for panels, papers and posters on any of the themes above or any other. Each panel or session should constitute between four to five papers. Proposals should clearly indicate the form and theme of presentation proposed.
