National competition invites established businesses, start-ups and student entrepreneurs to pitch their ventures, gain national recognition and compete for four cash prizes. Applications are now open for the 2026 CIBC Biz Pitch Competition™, a national business competition presented by CIBC Business Banking and the Women’s Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (WEKH) at the Diversity Institute, Toronto Metropolitan University. The competition gives Canadian entrepreneurs an opportunity to present their businesses, strengthen their pitches, connect with experienced business leaders and compete for a share of $45,000 CAD in total prize money. Applications close on August 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. A national stage for Canadian businesses The CIBC Biz Pitch Competition is designed to recognize entrepreneurs at different stages of business development. Applicants can include founders building early-stage start-ups, students transforming ideas into commercial ventures and established entrepreneurs with proven growth and market impact. The competition is built around three primary award categories, an audience-choice prize and a live virtual pitch event. It gives selected entrepreneurs more than an opportunity to win funding. Participants can also gain national visibility, expert feedback, pitch-development support and stronger connections to Canada’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. Four prizes worth $45,000 CAD The competition includes four awards. Entrepreneurial Success Story of the Year — $20,000 CAD This category recognizes an established Canadian business that has demonstrated sustained growth, market expansion and meaningful impact. There is no maximum operating period for businesses entering this category. The strongest candidates will be able to clearly explain how the business has developed, the results it has achieved and the opportunity that remains ahead. Start-Up of the Year — $10,000 CAD This award is intended for businesses that have been in active operation for fewer than two years as of August 31, 2026. Applicants should demonstrate that they are building something distinctive, responding to a real market need and developing a credible strategy for growth. Promising Student Entrepreneur of the Year — $10,000 CAD This category is available to currently enrolled post-secondary students who have an existing venture or an idea that is being developed into a business. It gives student founders an opportunity to move beyond the classroom, communicate the commercial potential of their ideas and compete for funding that can help advance their ventures. Most Popular Vote — $5,000 CAD All finalists in the three main categories can compete for the audience-choice award. Votes may be submitted by the live audience during the pitch event and after the event. This category rewards entrepreneurs who can communicate their ideas clearly, activate supporters and build public interest around their businesses. Who can apply? The competition is open to Canadian entrepreneurs across industries and backgrounds. Applicants must generally: Be legal residents of Canada who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory. Be founders or co-founders of eligible Canadian businesses or ventures. Operate businesses that are legally registered and headquartered in Canada. Meet the specific requirements of the selected prize category. Not be employees of CIBC or WEKH, or immediate family members of those employees. Applicants should review the complete terms and conditions before submitting because each award category has additional requirements. How the competition works The CIBC Biz Pitch Competition uses a three-stage selection process. Stage 1: Application review Entrepreneurs submit their applications by August 31. A judging panel reviews the entries and selects 30 semifinalists, consisting of 10 businesses from each of the three primary categories. Stage 2: In-depth assessment The semifinalists receive a more detailed assessment from CIBC and WEKH representatives. From that group, nine finalists are selected—three from each principal award category. Stage 3: Live pitch event The nine finalists receive coaching from CIBC and WEKH before presenting their ventures at the live virtual pitch event on October 20, 2026. The main category winners are expected to be announced in connection with the October event, while the Most Popular Vote process continues into late October. Important dates The current competition schedule includes: Milestone Date Applications opened July 16, 2026 Application deadline August 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET Finalists notified By September 25, 2026 Live virtual pitch event October 20, 2026 Main winners announced October 20, 2026 Most Popular Vote Late October 2026 Finalists should be prepared to participate in coaching and pitch preparation before the October event. What applicants should communicate A strong pitch application should do more than describe a product or service. Entrepreneurs should be ready to explain: The problem the business solves. Who the customers are. Why the business is different. What progress or market validation has already been achieved. How the company generates or intends to generate revenue. How the prize money would be used. Why the founder or team is positioned to execute the plan. What measurable growth or impact the business can create. Established businesses should emphasize results, resilience and expansion. Start-ups should focus on innovation, traction and scalability. Student entrepreneurs should demonstrate that their concepts are moving toward credible, practical ventures. Applicants must prepare their own submissions One especially important rule is that the use of artificial intelligence to create or assist with an application is prohibited. Applicants should therefore prepare their competition responses independently and ensure that every claim, number and statement is their own work. Eligible applicants can win only one category, and the odds of winning depend on the number and quality of eligible applications received. Entrepreneurs may still use ordinary business records, financial statements, research and internal documentation to organize their information, but the submitted competition application must comply with the official restriction on AI assistance. Why the opportunity matters Pitch competitions can deliver value even when an applicant does not win the top prize. Preparing an application forces a founder to clarify the business model, define the market opportunity, document achievements and explain how capital would accelerate growth. Selected entrepreneurs also benefit from: Increased visibility for their companies. Professional pitch coaching. Feedback from business and entrepreneurship experts. A stronger founder story. Exposure to potential customers, partners and supporters. A reusable pitch structure for future funding and sales opportunities. The Most Popular Vote adds another dimension by encouraging finalists to build audience support and communicate their stories beyond the judging panel. How to apply Applications must be submitted by August 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Entrepreneurs can review the competition information and official rules through the CIBC Biz Pitch Competition page: Review the competition and apply No purchase is necessary. Applicants should read the complete eligibility requirements and official terms before submitting. A chance to tell the story behind the business Canadian entrepreneurs often spend years building companies without receiving a meaningful public platform to explain what they have created. The CIBC Biz Pitch Competition gives founders that platform. Whether the applicant is developing a new student venture, scaling a young start-up or leading an established Canadian business, the competition offers an opportunity to sharpen the company’s story, compete for meaningful funding and present its potential on a national stage.
