Since 1877, The Fresh Air Fund has worked with and provided New York City children from low-income communities free summer experiences. More than 1.8 million children have been served through two core program areas: the Fresh Air Camps on Sharpe Reservation and visits to volunteer host families in states from North Carolina and Virginia to Maine, and into southern Canada. Since 1994, The Fresh Air Fund has supported complementary year-round academic enrichment programs for middle and high school FAF participants including tutoring and mentoring, a Career-Awareness Program, a College Connections Program, and a Teen Leadership Program. The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, not-for-profit organization. Presently, each year, nearly 7,000 boys and girls participate in Fresh Air programs.

The Fresh Air Fund is recruiting an accomplished senior manager to lead the Director of Community Outreach and Partnerships & Supportive Services program area.

The Community Outreach and Partnerships & Supportive Services department is integral to the outreach and engagement with community partners and New York City families on behalf of The Fresh Air Fund. COPSS cultivates and strengthens relationships with community-based partners to introduce FAF and our programs, create program partnerships, and enroll children into FAF summer programs. In addition, COPSS works to cultivate and connect with community partners to connect community resources and create partnerships to help support the needs of FAF participants. In addition to organizational partnerships and development, COPSS is responsible for the supportive services needs of FAF children and families. Ensuring the well-being of FAF children, COPSS works with families, schools, and organizational partners to ensure that FAF participants with any special needs are connected to community resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in building and managing all community outreach and engagement efforts of FAF within five boroughs creating mutually-beneficial partnerships.
  • Cultivate and sustain partnerships with a diverse group of stakeholders including but not limited to community organizations, schools, health organizations, and libraries.
  • Create and manage opportunities for FAF to better reach and engage NYC children and families.
  • Work directly with NYC children and families in response to needs and to ensure overall program success.
  • Have strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem solving skills with the ability to plan, implement, and balance multiple projects and constituents.
  • Support and participate in the seamless operational process for the program application period, including participant applications, review and interviews, matching children, and helping trouble shoot transportation needs.
  • Oversee the Supportive Services portfolio of FAF, including creating a network of partnerships to ensure the needs of FAF children and families can be met through a rich network of health and human service providers.
  • Create, supervise, host, and attend community engagement meetings and events.
  • Manage a team of professionals who support the community outreach and engagement work and the social workers within the Supportive Services portfolio. Manage interns and seasonal staff who help support summer season.
  • Work successfully with all FAF teams to ensure shared mission and programmatic success for FAF children and families.
  • Write clear and consistent communication regularly with partners and working with Public Relations team to ensure all materials are consumer friendly, culturally and linguistically appropriate, and successfully represent and market FAF programs.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Successful track-record demonstrating ability to cultivate, build, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with a diverse group of stakeholders and individuals
  • - Operationally strong professional with understanding of efficacy and efficiency in meeting program goals
  • Enthusiasm, teamwork focused, and strong interpersonal and customer service orientation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
  • Effective leadership and team building skills, with a commitment to staff and team development
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Competency on office computer applications (word processing, publications and presentations, spreadsheet and database management)
  • Possess tact, diplomacy and flexibility
  • Supervisory skills
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • BA/BS Degree, Masters preferred
  • 5-7 years experience in the field of children's services, volunteer management, not-for-profit operations, community development, customer service or equivalent combination of experience, education and training
  • Minimum of 3 years staff supervisory experience

This position is based out of FAF headquarters in NYC but does require intermittent travel to Friendly Town areas throughout the Northeast. Some evening and weekend meetings are required. The summer season, from June through early September, requires full-time employment.
