The Canada Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) is an initiative by the Government of Canada designed to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in adopting digital technologies to enhance their competitiveness. The program offers a grant of up to $15,000 to eligible businesses to develop their digital plan, followed by a 0% interest loan of up to $100,000 for implementing the plan. The loan covers expenses directly related to the digital plan, including acquiring IT equipment, installing new technologies, updating or expanding existing IT equipment, training staff, and obtaining materials and support services associated with onboarding technology.
To participate in CDAP, businesses need to follow a four-step process:
- Register on the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) website.
- Build a digital plan with the assistance of an ISED-approved partner.
- Submit the plan and invoices to ISED for approval, and receive a grant of up to $15,000 to cover advisory fees.
- Apply for a 0% interest loan of up to $100,000 through the CDAP portal on ISED's website, accessible after plan approval.
The program highlights several advantages for businesses, such as accessing expert advice (covering up to 90% of the cost of hiring a digital advisor), increasing competitiveness through digital maturity, and benefiting from a 12-month capital postponement to acquire new technology while preserving cash flow.
Additionally, the CDAP features frequently asked questions addressing various aspects of the program, including eligibility criteria, loan terms and amounts, application processes for different streams (Grow Your Business Online and Boost Your Business Technology), and inquiries about the BDC zero-interest loan.
Businesses can subscribe to stay informed about CDAP updates and receive tips and tools for entrepreneurs through the program's website. The program is a collaboration between ISED and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), with BDC's Advisory Services team serving as an approved partner in the CDAP network to assist businesses in digitizing and achieving their strategic goals.
