At Sandy Spring Museum, it’s all about community. The museum was begun in 1981 by volunteers who were concerned about losing knowledge of the community’s colorful history, which seemed to be dwindling as each older resident passed away. Sandy Spring Museum found a permanent home in 1997, in an ideal complex situated on 7 beautifully landscaped acres of land – fittingly donated by a family whose ancestors settled in Sandy Spring in the late 1700’s. Now boasting a state-of-the-art research library and archival, photographic and artifact collections storage, the museum is a gathering place where people can develop meaningful connections by exploring community history through the visual, literary and performing arts. The permanent exhibit illustrates local history and tells stories of agricultural innovation, women’s suffrage, progressive education and a community adapting to changing times.

The current campaign is being promoted through the agency’s social media channels, email and text message communications, as well as through their monthly magazine, delivered to thousands of households in the greater Silver Spring area. All of those who donate a minimum of $5 will be acknowledged in their monthly magazine. The agency itself has pledged to contribute $20 to the initiative for Sandy Spring Museum for each and every referral they receive, with no purchase necessary.
