Fitzgerald Haughton—known to audiences as Captain Love, C-Love and, in earlier Toronto music circles, “Barima”—has spent years moving between music, entrepreneurship and artist development. Today, the Spanish Town, Jamaica-born singer and songwriter is entering another chapter: using music not simply as entertainment, but as the centre of a connected digital system designed to help artists build audiences, develop fan relationships, generate revenue and remain discoverable long after a song is released. Growing up in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica, Haughton was known simply as “Mike.” His musical identity would eventually develop around a combination of reggae, R&B and dancehall, reflecting both his Jamaican roots and the international influences that surrounded him. Over the years, he has performed and recorded under several names, but Captain Love has increasingly become the identity around which his current music and entrepreneurial ambitions are being built. His story is also becoming part of a much larger experiment at the Pamper Me Network (PMN): exploring how independent artists can use technology, content, artificial intelligence, fan participation and monetization tools to build a music career without depending entirely on the traditional music-industry gatekeepers.
