Artificial intelligence is rapidly creating a new category of filmmaker, and one of the largest opportunities available right now is the Astana AI Film Festival 2026.
The international festival is inviting filmmakers, artists, studios and collaborative teams from around the world to submit films created with generative AI. The festival now has a combined US$2 million fund, consisting of US$1 million in competition prizes and an additional US$1 million production investment fund for promising AI productions.

A $450,000 Grand Prize
The competition is divided into two main sections.

Who Can Apply?
The festival is international and accepts submissions from:
- Individual filmmakers
- AI creators
- Artists
- Creative teams
- Studios
There is no submission fee, and creators may submit multiple films.
Films must be at least three minutes long, generative AI must be an integral part of the creative process, and applicants must disclose the models and production pipeline they used. Films may be submitted in any language, but English subtitles must be included.
The Open Competition can also accept previously completed works and films that have participated in other festivals.

The submission deadline has been extended to:
September 7, 2026
The festival states that late submissions may still be considered at the judges' discretion, but creators should not rely on that exception.
