A useful distinction: some of these programs are specifically for AI companies, while others are broader startup competitions or accelerators that are actively funding AI startups. Investment programs may require equity or SAFE agreements, while prizes, grants and cloud credits can be non-dilutive.

1. PearX W27
Pear VC has opened applications for its PearX W27 cohort, with the regular deadline set for October 4. PearX is aimed at very early-stage founders and has explicitly highlighted its interest in the next generation of AI companies. Recent PearX cohorts have offered investments ranging from approximately $250,000 to $2 million, together with cloud credits, recruiting support, fundraising preparation and hands-on help from the Pear team. Pear VC
This is particularly attractive for founders who are still early enough that the product, market or exact business model may still be evolving.
2. a16z speedrun SR008
Andreessen Horowitz's speedrun program says it will invest up to $1 million in selected startups. Its next cohort, SR008, begins in early 2027 in San Francisco. The priority application period runs from October 12 through November 1, although speedrun says it accepts applications throughout the year. speedrun
Although speedrun originated with a strong gaming and entertainment focus, its current application includes B2B, consumer applications, infrastructure, deep tech, healthcare and other categories. AI-native companies can therefore fit naturally into the program.
3. University of Toronto 2027 Desjardins Startup Prize
For Canadian founders with a University of Toronto connection, the 2027 Desjardins Startup Prize is worth watching. Applications open October 13 and close November 18.
The competition advertises more than $100,000 in prizes. Published awards include $15,000 for the Early-Stage first-place winner and $40,000 for the Later-Stage first-place winner, plus second-place, third-place and People's Choice awards. Ten finalists will pitch during U of T Entrepreneurship Week in March 2027. AI companies are eligible because the competition is open across sectors. University of Toronto Entrepreneurship
Eligibility does require a qualifying U of T affiliation, so this is not a universal opportunity.
4. Y Combinator Winter 2027
Y Combinator is now accepting applications for its Winter 2027 funding cycle. The batch runs from January through March in San Francisco, and the on-time deadline is November 2 at 8 p.m. Pacific Time. Y Combinator

IMAGINE THIS POWERING YOUR NEXT RELEASE.
YC currently invests $500,000 in every accepted company: $125,000 for 7% through a post-money SAFE and another $375,000 through an uncapped MFN SAFE. YC accepts startups from around the world and remains one of the major funding channels for AI-native startups. Y Combinator
5. Techstars AI Health Baltimore
Techstars AI Health Baltimore is one of the clearest AI-specific funding opportunities on the list. It invests $220,000 per accepted company and is focused on AI startups improving healthcare economics, clinical operations and patient outcomes.
The program is backed by an ecosystem that includes Johns Hopkins, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, MedStar Health, the University of Maryland Baltimore and the University of Maryland Medical System. Applications close November 18, and the accelerator starts March 8, 2027. Techstars
For founders building clinical AI, healthcare workflow automation, medical decision support or AI infrastructure for health systems, this is an especially relevant opportunity.
6. Techstars Anywhere Accelerator
Techstars also has its remote-first Anywhere Accelerator open through November 18. The program begins in March 2027.
Techstars' current standard accelerator investment is $220,000, consisting of $200,000 through an uncapped MFN SAFE and $20,000 tied to a 5% common-equity agreement. Techstars
Anywhere is not AI-only, but AI businesses are eligible, and Techstars is increasingly integrating AI companies, tools and credits throughout its accelerator network.
7. Antler Canada
Antler Canada is another option for founders who want investment rather than a prize. The organization says it invests $250,000 for 9% equity, with the possibility of follow-on capital as companies grow. Antler
Canada operates on a rolling intake, rather than a single annual deadline. Antler can work with founders who have not yet settled on an idea or co-founder as well as startups already building a product. Antler
For Toronto-area AI founders, this can be particularly useful because the program does not require waiting for a once-a-year application window.
8. Creative Destruction Lab Artificial Intelligence Stream
Creative Destruction Lab's Artificial Intelligence Stream is different from most of the programs above. CDL does not promise every participant a fixed cheque. Instead, it provides an equity-free, no-fee commercialization program centered around repeated interaction with active investors, exited founders, AI researchers and technical experts.
Applications are currently open for the 2026/27 program year. CDL describes the program as being for companies pursuing commercial opportunities based on machine learning and artificial intelligence. Creative Destruction Lab
For startups that already have meaningful technology but need investor access, commercialization discipline and introductions, CDL can function as a funding pipeline even though it is not itself a standard investment fund.

9. AWS Startup Accelerator Cohort 4
AWS has opened Startup Accelerator Cohort 4, specifically targeting Generative AI startups, companies commercializing GenAI across industries and AI-hardware innovators.
Accepted startups can receive up to $100,000 in AWS Promotional Credits, including support for model usage through Amazon Bedrock. AWS states that it does not take equity from participating startups. The current cohort is focused on founders and companies in China. Amazon Web Services, Inc.
In addition to credits, participants receive technical guidance from AWS specialists, global-expansion support and VC networking.
10. Global AI Builders Cup
The Global AI Builders Cup is a new international pitch competition specifically for AI-native startups.
The program advertises a $50,000 to $250,000 investment opportunity from Chief in Tech Capital. The investment is subject to due diligence and final investment terms, so it should not be treated as an automatic cash prize. Entry itself is free. Global AI Builders Cup
Season 1 launches during the AI Builders Global Conference on October 15, 2026, with regional applications scheduled to open in January 2027. Regional rounds are planned across multiple continents.
How founders should approach these opportunities
The immediate priority is timing. PearX closes October 4, making it the most urgent. YC follows on November 2, while the Techstars programs and U of T competition close November 18. Speedrun's priority window runs through November 1.
Founders should also distinguish cash prizes and grants from equity investments. YC, Antler, Techstars, Pear and a16z provide investment capital with ownership or convertible-security implications. The Desjardins competition provides prize money, AWS primarily provides cloud credits, and CDL provides investor access rather than guaranteed funding.
The most efficient strategy is to prepare one reusable funding package: a concise company description, founder biographies, pitch deck, traction metrics, market size, competitive advantage, product demo and explanation of exactly how new capital will be used.
For AI startups, the final quarter of 2026 has an unusually concentrated set of opportunities. Applying to several compatible programs can turn fundraising into a pipeline instead of relying on a single investor or competition.
