Session focus
The official outline divides the course into three sessions. The first covers foundations of mindfulness, mindful breathing, equanimity and loving-kindness. The second considers habitual reactions, including teachings about pain and additional suffering, and encourages participants to observe the body as an early indicator of reactivity. The third turns toward applied practice, including responding to anger, accepting difficulty, impermanence and returning to practice after interruptions.
What participants can explore
The organizer describes Shopa as a New York City mindfulness teacher and composer who has completed relevant meditation teacher training and has led lunchtime meditation sessions at Tibet House. The class uses accessible teaching to connect contemplative ideas with daily situations. It is presented as an educational meditation course; no psychotherapy or guaranteed medical benefit is represented.
