ABOUT MICHAEL NICHOLSON:
Michael celebrates thirty years of theatre this year and his work is merited as one of the highest calibres in our country. After graduating in directing form Edna Manley School of the Performing Arts, he continued to establish himself as a reputable actor and a distinguished director. Distinguished is a title modest for his directing as he notched under his belt works such as ‘Country Duppy’, ‘Body Language’, ‘Kiss mi neck’, Aston Cooke’s award winning comedy ‘Single Entry’ and ‘Dem Good Ole Days’ which earned him an ITI Actor Boy nomination as best director in 2000.
He has also directed the box office hit ‘Bashment Granny 2’ for the ‘Shebada’ franchise. As an actor some of Michael’s acclaimed stage credits along with 11 years of Pantomime lead and title roles are Basil Dawkins’ ‘No Dirty Money’, Aston Cooke’s ‘Front Room’, Louis Mariott’s ‘Bedward’, Trevor Rhone’s ‘Positive’ and Patrick Brown’s ‘Oliver Posse’ which earned him the Actor Boy award for Best Actor in a supporting role in 2000.
Michael qualifies as a well-rounded theatre practitioner and is probably well known to Jamaican audiences as the lovable ‘Stringbean’ on CVM television’s local soap opera ‘Royal Palm Estate. In addition to his film credits Michael also played a major role in Trevor Rhone’s ‘One love’ and recently a major role in Nick Cannon’s ‘King of the Dancehall’. He is no stranger to a David Tulloch production as he has directed ‘Wine & Roses’ and ‘Confessions’ and appeared in ‘Sins of the Flesh’ and ‘Prayer Partner’. Currently, Michael is the events co-ordinator at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission.
